The new ESPN 100 basketball rankings for the class of 2018 were released Wednesday morning, and R.J. Barrett has moved past Zion Williamson and into the No. 1 spot.
A couple of players who have moved up on UK’s recruiting radar in recent weeks also received rankings bumps.
Simi Shittu — a 6-9 forward from Canada — is now the No. 6 overall prospect in the 2018 class. Shittu does not yet have an “official” scholarship offer from Kentucky, but John Calipari flew to Canada to watch him play recently and the versatile prospect is expected to land that offer as soon as he visits Lexington, a trip that could happen very soon.
Keldon Johnson — a 6-6 wing from Virginia — earned his UK offer during a visit Tuesday, and he’s now the No. 7 overall recruit in the 2018 class, moving up five spots from the previous rankings. UK took over as the new favorite on Johnson’s 247Sports Crystal Ball page Tuesday night.
Barrett and Williamson — two of UK’s biggest 2018 targets — are No. 1 and 2 in the ESPN rankings, respectively. Other players with UK scholarship offers are Cameron Reddish (No. 3), Bol Bol (No. 4), Romeo Langford (No. 5), Darius Garland (No. 11), Immanuel Quickley (No. 12) and Quentin Grimes (No. 13).
Louisville has two Top 50 commitments: Anfernee Simons (No. 8) and Courtney Ramey (No. 49).
