If ESPN’s latest NBA Draft projection comes true, UK’s only basketball commitment for the class of 2018 will be in Lexington for only one season.
Immanuel Quickley is the No. 6 pick in ESPN’s new mock draft for 2019, posted by draft analyst Jonathan Givony on Friday morning. Quickley is ranked by Scout.com as the No. 8 overall prospect in the 2018 class and committed to UK last week.
The rest of the mock draft is heavy on UK players and recruiting targets.
In all, four current Wildcats are listed as first-round picks for 2019: Kevin Knox (No. 12), PJ Washington (No. 16), Jarred Vanderbilt (No. 18) and Sacha Killeya-Jones (No. 28). Of course, it’s possible that any or all of those players could leave after this season and enter the 2018 NBA Draft.
As of now, Hamidou Diallo and Nick Richards are the only UK players listed in ESPN’s mock draft for 2018.
The 2019 mock draft also includes several uncommitted players that are still on UK’s recruiting radar: R.J. Barrett (No. 1), Zion Williamson (No. 2), Quentin Grimes (No. 8), Romeo Langford (No. 9) and Darius Garland (No. 10).
Grimes is taking an official visit to UK this weekend, and Scout.com national analyst Evan Daniels told the Herald-Leader that the Wildcats have been gaining ground in his recruitment.
