Five-star basketball prospect Zion Williamson scored 36 points at the Hoophall Classic in Massachusetts on Saturday night, then briefly discussed his recruitment with reporters at the event.
Williamson said his Jan. 20 announcement date is also his mother’s birthday, and he mentioned Clemson, South Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky, Duke and North Carolina as the six schools still in the mix. He took recruiting visits to all six of those schools during the fall.
The 6-foot-6 forward from Spartanburg, S.C., also said that coaches from UK, UNC and South Carolina have been by to see him in the past week or so. Clemson has emerged in recent weeks as the team to beat in Williamson’s recruitment.
Williamson is the No. 3 overall prospect in the class of 2018, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He is the only uncommitted player in the 2018 class that has a scholarship offer from Kentucky.
According to 247Sports analyst Evan Daniels, the announcement will be made at Williamson’s high school, and he’ll reveal his decision around 5 or 6 p.m.
