Less than a week after five-star post player E.J. Montgomery emerged as a realistic UK recruiting target for the class of 2018, national analyst Andrew Slater has logged a prediction in favor of the Duke Blue Devils.
Montgomery — a 6-foot-10 power forward from Marietta, Ga. — decommitted from Auburn last fall and is still looking at several schools, including UK and Duke. The player’s father told 247Sports on Friday that Montgomery plans to cut his list to five schools soon, and Duke will be one of the first to get a visit.
247Sports ranks Montgomery as the No. 6 overall player in the class of 2018, and he’s the No. 12 prospect in the 2018 composite rankings. Duke already has commitments from the top three players in the class — R.J. Barrett, Cameron Reddish and Zion Williamson — in addition to Tre Jones, another top-10 recruit and the No. 1 point guard in the class.
