Already in Texas for Saturday night’s game against Texas A&M, UK Coach John Calipari did a little recruiting — watching five-star prospect Tyrese Maxey, the Cats’ top point guard target for the class of 2019.
Calipari has now visited Maxey — a 6-foot-3 player from Garland, Texas — at least three times since October, and Maxey was in Lexington last fall for an unofficial visit to Big Blue Madness.
He’s also considering Michigan State and several others, including Southern Methodist, where his father was recently hired in a support staff role. The Herald-Leader has been told that UK should be considered the frontrunner for Maxey at his point in his recruitment.
According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Maxey is the No. 13 player and No. 2 point guard in the class of 2019. He’s also the only point guard in the 2019 class with a scholarship offer from Kentucky.
