It’s been a big couple of weeks for University Heights Academy guard KyKy Tandy, who visited UK for a game last weekend and then picked up a new scholarship offer and got one game closer to the Sweet Sixteen this past weekend.
The in-state guard — a nationally ranked prospect in the 2019 class — landed an offer from Iowa State on Saturday afternoon to go with other recent offers from Cincinnati and Tennessee. Florida and Oklahoma are among the schools that extended scholarship offers earlier in the process.
On Saturday night, Tandy — a 6-1 guard — scored 21 points and led UHA to a 59-38 victory over Union County in the 2nd Region semifinals. Next up for UHA will be a regional final rematch with Christian County, which beat UHA twice in the regular season. UHA defeated Christian County in the district title game game two weeks ago. Tandy scored 43 points that night, and UK called with an invitation to attend a game in Rupp the next day.
The UHA-Christian County game is set for 7 p.m. Monday at Henderson County High School, and the winner will clinch a spot in next week’s Sweet Sixteen in Rupp Arena. The Herald-Leader was told last week that someone from UK’s coaching staff might be at Monday night’s game if UHA advanced that far.
