As the Penny Hardaway-to-Memphis talk continues to heat up, expect similar talk around No. 1 recruit James Wiseman and the Tigers.
247Sports recruiting reporter Adam Rowe — a Duke insider — is the latest to log a pro-Memphis prediction on Wiseman’s 247Sports Crystal Ball page. National recruiting analyst Andrew Slater was the first to make such a pick last month, when rumors that Hardaway might replace Tubby Smith at his alma mater began heating up.
Wiseman — a 6-foot-11 power forward — plays for Hardaway at Memphis East High School and with Team Penny on the Nike circuit. He is the No. 1 player in the class of 2019, according to the 247Sports recruiting rankings. UK remains the favorite on his Crystal Ball page — and he’s had nothing but great things to say about the Cats — but that could change if Hardaway does indeed land the Memphis job this offseason.
There has also been speculation that Wiseman will jump to the class of 2018 and play college basketball next season, though he has said he’s sticking in 2019.
