Five-star point guard Tyrese Maxey is expected to host several top college coaches for in-home recruiting visits this weekend, according to Rivals.com national analyst Corey Evans.
Maxey — a 6-foot-4 prospect from Garland, Texas — is scheduled to meet with UK’s John Calipari, Michigan State’s Tom Izzo, Michigan’s John Beilein and Texas’ Shaka Smart. The final recruiting period of the spring where in-home visits are permitted begins Friday and ends April 18.
According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Maxey is the No. 2 overall point guard in the 2019 class behind only UK commitment Ashton Hagans, who is widely expected to reclassify to 2018 this summer and play college basketball next season.
Maxey has also been the subject of reclassification rumors, and he confirmed to SEC Country on Wednesday that he’s contemplating that move and has discussed the possibility with Calipari.
Southern Methodist, where Maxey’s father is on the basketball staff, is the current 247Sports Crystal Ball favorite in his recruitment, but the Herald-Leader has been told since last fall that Kentucky is his most likely landing spot.
