247Sports national recruiting analyst Evan Daniels logged a Crystal Ball prediction in favor of Kentucky for five-star point guard Tyrese Maxey on Saturday night.
Maxey — a 6-foot-3 prospect from Garland, Texas — has hosted John Calipari and UK assistant coach Tony Barbee twice for in-home visits over the past couple of weeks, and the national perception of his recruitment has swung heavily in the Wildcats’ favor over the past few days. UK now has nearly 90 percent of the picks on Maxey’s Crystal Ball page.
He’s currently the No. 13 overall prospect in the 247Sports composite rankings for 2019, but Maxey is contemplating a move to the 2018 class.
“I think — if he’s going to reclassify to 2018 — I’d probably classify Kentucky as the favorite,” Daniels told the Herald-Leader on Wednesday. “But he’s still going through this process and meeting with other schools and playing it by ear.
“He’s still trying to sort that out and figure it out, but I would bet that we have an answer in the very near future.”
Daniels also logged a Crystal Ball prediction in favor of Duke for UK target Bryan Antoine, one of the top 10 players in the 2019 class. Antoine and teammate Scottie Lewis both have UK scholarship offers, and Duke has long been seen as the favorite in Antoine’s recruitment. UK is thought to have a better chance with Lewis.
