ESPN released its first expanded football recruiting rankings for the class of 2019 on Monday morning, and five players from the state of Kentucky made the list.

South Warren defensive lineman Jacob Lacey is No. 116 overall, Trinity defensive end Stephen Herron is No. 137 overall, Glasgow offensive lineman Tanner Bowles is No. 217 overall, Scott County offensive lineman Bryan Hudson is No. 250 overall, and Louisville Christian wide receiver Milton Wright is No. 274 overall.

It’s an extraordinarily talented class of in-state football players, but it doesn’t appear that UK will land any of those five prospects.

Lacey (Notre Dame) and Herro (Michigan) committed early in the recruiting cycle. In the past few days, Bowles has committed to Alabama and Hudson to Virginia Tech.

Wright remains uncommitted, but Ohio State — and many other top programs — have made him a recruiting priority for the 2019 class. UK extended scholarship offers to all five of the in-state players on ESPN’s Top 300 list.

One of the Wildcats’ early 2019 commitments did make the national rankings. Florida defensive back Keontra Smith is ranked No. 226 overall, though he has taken several recent visits to local program Miami, and the Hurricanes are trying to flip him to their 2019 class.
