Five-star basketball recruit Bryan Antoine narrowed his list to five schools Thursday, and Kentucky is still in the mix.
Antoine — a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from New Jersey — is the No. 7 overall prospect in the class of 2019, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He was one of the first players from that class to land a scholarship offer from UK.
His final five schools are Duke, Florida, Kansas, Kentucky and Villanova.
Antoine spoke to the Herald-Leader a couple of weeks ago and had flattering things to say about the Wildcats’ program.
“Everybody knows everything about Kentucky,” he said. “They’re known for getting players to the NBA early. They’ve had success with doing that — a lot of success. Any player who’s trying to better themselves and play at the next level and stuff like that, Kentucky would be the best place to go.”
Duke, however, is the consensus favorite for Antoine, who is already on a group text with Blue Devils commitment Joey Baker and two other top 2019 prospects, Joe Girard and Isaiah Stewart, who are both considered Duke leans.
The Blue Devils have a majority of the Crystal Ball predictions on Antoine’s 247Sports page, and he didn’t deny the rumor that Duke is his favorite when asked a couple of weeks ago.
“I hear it all the time,” he told the Herald-Leader. “Duke’s a great school. But I’m really not focused on stuff like that. I’m just trying to finish my AAU season. And once my AAU season is over, then I’ll start considering stuff like that.”
Antoine is high school and AAU teammates with Scottie Lewis, another major UK recruiting target in the 2019 class.
