It’s already been a busy week for Pendleton County basketball star Dontaie Allen, who has received two new scholarship offers over the past couple of days and could have more on the way.
Allen — a 6-foot-7 wing in the class of 2019 — announced a new offer from Dayton on Tuesday and an offer from West Virginia on Wednesday. He’s also expected to visit Purdue on Wednesday, and the Boilermakers could come though with an offer on that trip. Update: Allen did indeed earn a scholarship offer from Purdue on Wednesday, and he also picked up a new offer from Virginia Tech, bringing his total to four new offers in the past two days.
UK has been recruiting Allen in recent months, and he’s expected to visit Lexington in June as the Cats continue to monitor his progress. U of L Coach Chris Mack watched him play with his M.A.T.T.S. Mustangs travel team at a recent recruiting event in Indianapolis, and Western Kentucky came through with a scholarship offer earlier this month.
Allen has also received offers from Xavier and Nevada over the past couple of weeks. 247Sports recently bumped him up 61 spots to the No. 154 overall position in its national rankings for the class of 2019.
Allen averaged 31.8 points and 11.4 rebounds per game at Pendleton County last season, shooting nearly 40 percent from three-point range.
