UK commitment Tyrese Maxey has made it past the final round of cuts and will be part of the USA Basketball U18 team that travels to Canada later this week to play for a FIBA gold medal.

Maxey — a 6-foot-3 point guard — was one of 12 players selected for the squad, which is being coached by Kansas’ Bill Self and will start international play Sunday night. The future Kentucky Wildcat — a member of the class of 2019 — has been in Colorado Springs since last week as part of the U18 training camp.

Other UK targets joining Maxey on the U18 team are Cole Anthony and Matthew Hurt. Both of those uncommitted 2019 prospects are also being recruited by Self.

The U18 team will also feature possible UK targets Armando Bacot and Josiah James, in addition to Illinois freshman Ayo Dosunmu, Kansas freshman Quentin Grimes, Texas freshman Kamaka Hepa, North Carolina freshman Coby White, and uncommitted 2019 recruits Trayce Jackson-Davis, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and Rocket Watts.

UK targets Keion Brooks and Jalen Lecque did not make the final cut.
