Pendleton County basketball star Dontaie Allen received a scholarship offer from Vanderbilt during an unofficial visit to the school Friday.
Allen — a 6-foot-6 wing in the class of 2019 — averaged 31.8 points and 11.4 rebounds per game as a high school junior last season, shooting nearly 40 percent from three-point range. 247Sports recently moved him up to the No. 154 overall ranking in the class of 2019.
Vanderbilt joins Xavier, West Virginia, Purdue, Virginia Tech, Western Kentucky and others as schools that have extended offers to Allen in recent weeks. UK and Louisville have also showed interest in his recruitment, and he visited Lexington earlier this month.
The Wildcats are expected to keep an eye on him for a possible scholarship offer down the road. UK has not signed an in-state recruit since Dominique Hawkins and Derek Willis in the class of 2013.
