Five-star basketball prospect Josiah James is now down to nine schools, and Kentucky is not on his new recruiting list.
James — a 6-foot-6 point guard from Charleston, S.C. — did not have a scholarship offer from UK when he cut his list over the weekend, though the Wildcats had been tracking his recruitment in recent weeks.
He told the Herald-Leader last month that he would “definitely” be interested if UK were to get more involved with his recruitment.
“I know Coach Cal is one of the best coaches to ever do it,” he said. “I know that the guys go there with one mission, and that’s a national championship. I know that they develop a lot over the year — or years — that they’re there. And I know it’s a good atmosphere. The fans are awesome. The students are awesome. I just know that about them.”
It now appears he will end up somewhere else.
James’ list of nine schools includes Arizona, Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Kansas, Michigan State, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. All of those schools have extended scholarship offers.
247Sports ranks James as the No. 10 overall player in the 2019 class.
