The fall recruiting period begins Sunday, when college coaches will start traveling around the country to meet with their top targets in the 2019 class and beyond.
Heading into that fall recruiting period, there have been a few interesting Crystal Ball predictions related to some of the top prospects in the nation.
Perhaps the most intriguing development regards former UK commitment DJ Jeffries, who was viewed as a near-lock to Memphis in the immediate aftermath of his decommitment from the Wildcats earlier this summer.
Brooks Hansen, who covers Memphis for 247Sports, has changed his Crystal Ball pick for Jeffries to Mississippi State. National recruiting analyst Jerry Meyer has also made that switch, picking the Bulldogs for the former UK commitment.
Shortly after Jeffries backed out of his Kentucky commitment, national recruiting analyst Evan Daniels told the Herald-Leader that the 6-7 forward was not necessarily a sure thing for Memphis, where his former coach Penny Hardaway is now the head coach.
“There’s a possibility that he ends up at Memphis, but there are other schools that I think will be involved,” Daniels said then. “Mississippi State was heavily involved the first time around, and I would bet that they’re going to be involved again.”
Another new prediction late in the week: Longtime U of L recruiting reporter Jody Demling is now predicting that the Cardinals will land four-star center Aidan Igiehon, who also has UK, Oregon and St. John’s in his final four.
Igiehon is expected to meet with UK coaches Monday, but it’s unclear how seriously the Cats are recruiting him at this stage. He’s arguably Louisville’s No. 1 target in the 2019 class, and Coach Chris Mack is expected to meet with Igiehon on Sunday.
Daniels and fellow national analysts Josh Gershon and Brian Snow are also predicting that Igiehon will end up at Louisville. He’s the No. 51 player in the 247Sports rankings.
Also earlier this week, national recruiting expert Andrew Slater logged a Crystal Ball prediction in favor of North Carolina for dynamic wing player Precious Achiuwa, the No. 5 overall player in the 2019 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
Achiuwa has not been linked to UK, but not much has been made public about his recruitment, and Slater’s pick is the first Crystal Ball prediction on Achiuwa’s page in months.
North Carolina already has a commitment from five-star recruit Armando Bacot.
