John Calipari and UK assistant coach Tony Barbee were in Texas on Wednesday to check in on RJ Hampton, one of the top recruits in the class of 2020.
Calipari has been all over the country since the fall recruiting period began Sunday, primarily meeting with prospects from the 2019 class. The UK coach uses this recruiting window to establish early relationships with younger players, however, and his visit to Hampton so early in the week shows that the 6-foot-4 guard should be considered a major UK target moving forward.
Kentucky, Duke and Kansas are among the many programs that have been tracking Hampton, who is the No. 5 overall recruit in the 2020 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
Hampton had been openly considering a move to the 2019 class, but he said recently that he now plans to stick in 2020 and play two more seasons of high school basketball. He is scheduled to take an official visit to Memphis this weekend and be at UK for Big Blue Madness next month.
