Top-ranked basketball recruit James Wiseman will take an official visit to Memphis, after all.
ESPN’s Paul Biancardi reported Thursday that Wiseman has set an official visit to Memphis for the weekend of Oct. 19, locking in the fifth and final official visit of his recruitment. Wiseman has already taken his official visit to Kentucky and has other trips set for Kansas (this weekend), Vanderbilt (Oct. 12) and Florida State (Oct. 26).
The other four visits were planned weeks ago, but Wiseman put out that initial list without a scheduled trip to Memphis, which has emerged as the possible favorite in his recruitment since the Tigers hired Penny Hardaway as their new head coach. Hardaway was Wiseman’s coach for his junior season of high school and also coached the 7-footer on the Nike circuit last summer.
Wiseman, who is heading into his senior season at Memphis East High School, is ranked by ESPN and 247Sports as the No. 1 overall player in the 2019 class. His recruitment is widely expected to come down to UK and Memphis, though he is not expected to make a college decision until the spring.
