UK basketball signee Dontaie Allen is expected to miss all three of Pendleton County’s games at this week’s Ashland Invitational with a knee injury, his head coach said Wednesday.
Pendleton County Coach Keaton Belcher said Allen — a 6-foot-6 wing and the state’s leading scorer and rebounder this season — is still limping badly from an injury suffered in the second quarter of last week’s game against Cooper. He’s due to be re-evaluated at UK Hospital on Wednesday night.
UPDATE: Belcher said Wednesday night that everything looked normal on Allen’s MRI and he will continue to rest and ice his injured knee. “He’s day to day,” Belcher said, noting that Allen will definitely miss Thursday’s game at the Ashland Invitational.
Allen is averaging 42.9 points and 14.2 rebounds per game so far this season, and he has scored 3,255 points in his high school career. He signed with UK last month.
Following three games in the Ashland Invitational starting Thursday, the next stop for Pendleton County will be a game at Sayre School in Lexington on Jan. 4.
