National recruiting expert Andrew Slater logged a new Crystal Ball prediction this week in favor of Oregon for five-star basketball prospect Scottie Barnes, the first player from the 2020 class to land a scholarship offer from Kentucky.
Barnes — a versatile 6-foot-8 small forward from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. — took official visits to Florida State and Oregon this fall, and he told Rivals.com last month that Kentucky, Alabama, Duke, Kansas, Miami and Ohio State are also among the schools recruiting him hard.
Back in April, Barnes became the first player from the 2020 class to land an offer from UK Coach John Calipari.
“It’s a big thing to me, getting an offer from one of the best coaches that will ever coach,” he told the Herald-Leader at the time. “For him to offer me, it’s a blessing.”
Barnes is the No. 3 overall player in the 2020 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He has also been teammates with former UK target Vernon Carey — now a Duke commitment — at both the high school level and on the Nike travel circuit.
