Washington is gaining some major traction in the recruitment of five-star center Isaiah Stewart, one of the top targets left on UK’s recruiting board.
Rivals.com national analyst Eric Bossi and 247Sports insider Jerry Meyer are the latest national analysts to log predictions in favor of the Huskies, who landed Stewart’s first official visit back in the fall. Washington is coached by Mike Hopkins, who has a long relationship with Stewart — a 6-foot-9 prospect from Rochester, N.Y. — going back to his time as a Syracuse assistant coach.
Stewart is also considering Kentucky, Duke, Michigan State and Syracuse, and he’s expected to make a college announcement sometime soon, possibly this month. He’s the No. 6 overall player in the 2019 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
Bossi logged a Rivals Future Cast prediction in favor of Washington for Stewart on Tuesday morning. Rivals.com analysts Corey Evans and Dan McDonald had already been picking the Huskies. Evans did suggest Tuesday that UK still had a shot in the Stewart commitment, framing it as a three-team race between Duke, Kentucky and Washington but sticking with his prediction of the Huskies.
Meyer also made a pro-Washington prediction on Stewart’s 247Sports Crystal Ball page Tuesday. Brian Snow — listed by 247Sports as the “lead expert” for Stewart’s recruitment — logged a prediction for Washington back in October.
Washington also appears to be a serious threat for another major UK target, Jaden McDaniels, a Seattle native who is also considering San Diego State, Texas and UCLA. McDaniels is the No. 5 overall player in the class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
