ESPN released a new NBA mock draft for 2020 on Wednesday — after its analysts evaluated several top recruits at the Hoophall Classic over the weekend — and the list of possible picks is filled with current and future Kentucky Wildcats.
Top UK target Jaden McDaniels is the projected No. 1 overall pick in the new mock draft. The 6-foot-10 forward from Seattle is one of the highest ranked prospects in the 2019 class and has narrowed his recruiting list to Kentucky, San Diego State, Texas, UCLA and Washington. He is not expected to make a college decision until the spring.
Another UK target, shooting guard Anthony Edwards, is No. 2 on the list. Edwards — a 6-5 prospect from Atlanta — arrived on UK’s campus earlier this week for his official visit and is also considering Florida State, Georgia, Kansas and North Carolina.
Current UK players Ashton Hagans and Tyler Herro are also listed as first-round picks for 2020, which would mean ESPN projects them to stay beyond their freshman years this season. Herro is at No. 18, and Hagans is No. 20. ESPN lists both players in mid-second round territory in its list of Top 100 prospects for this year’s draft, and it’s certainly possible that one or both could bolt UK as a one-and-done after this season.
Another uncommitted class of 2019 target, Matthew Hurt, is projected as the No. 16 overall player in the mock draft. Hurt lists UK among his top schools and used his first official visit on a trip to Lexington in the fall. Duke, Kansas and North Carolina are all high on Hurt’s list, as well, and the 6-9 forward from Minnesota isn’t expected to make a college decision until the spring.
