Brooks

Kentucky basketball fans will be able to get a look at future Wildcats forward Keion Brooks this week as he tries to lead La Lumiere (Ind.) to a high school national championship.

Brooks — a 6-foot-7 senior from Fort Wayne, Ind. — and undefeated La Lumiere will play in the Geico National Championships starting Thursday. La Lumiere is the No. 1 seed in the tournament and begins play at 4 p.m. against Bishop Gorman (Nev.) in a game that will be televised on ESPN2.

Brooks, a five-star recruit in the 2019 class, committed to Kentucky last month.

A few of UK’s top recruiting targets in the 2020 class will also play in the national tournament.

Five-star post player N’Faly Dante will be in the event opener at noon Thursday (also on ESPNU) as he leads Sunrise Christian (Kan.) against IMG Academy (Fla.). Dante received a UK scholarship offer last spring and has been discussed as a possible reclassification candidate to 2019, a move that would allow him to play college basketball next season.

Five-star small forward Scottie Barnes — the first player in the 2020 class to land a UK offer — leads University School (Fla.) against Montverde Academy (Fla.) in the 2 p.m. game Thursday on ESPNU. Montverde’s roster features Cade Cunningham, a top-10 player in the 2020 class and another prospect on UK’s recruiting radar.

The winners of the noon and 2 p.m. games will meet Friday at 3 p.m. on ESPN2. If Brooks’ team wins its opener, the UK commitment will play Friday at 5 p.m., also on ESPN2.

The national championship game is scheduled for noon Saturday and will be televised on ESPN.
