Five-star basketball prospect Jalen Johnson recently narrowed his recruitment to four schools, and he’s been saying that a college decision is getting near.
Johnson — a 6-foot-8 forward from Wisconsin — told the Herald-Leader and others last month that he could be ready to make his college announcement by July, and he has cut his list to UK, Duke, Arizona and Wisconsin. Though he recently said that Kentucky was his “dream school” growing up, there’s been a sense in recruiting circles that Duke is the team to beat.
The Blue Devils remain the leader on Johnson’s Crystal Ball page, and a couple of nationally respected analysts at Rivals.com — Eric Bossi and Corey Evans — have both put in predictions in favor of Duke over the past few days. Bossi made his pick Tuesday after interviewing Johnson at the most recent Nike event in Indianapolis this past weekend.
Kentucky has hosted Johnson on unofficial visits for Big Blue Madness weekend in each of the past two seasons, and he was one of the Wildcats’ earliest major targets in the 2020 class. He’s universally regarded as a top-five prospect in that group, and Rivals.com ranks him No. 3 overall in 2020.
