There was a flurry of Crystal Ball activity related to top recruits in the 2020 class Wednesday, and it contained both good and bad news for Kentucky.
First, the good: national recruiting experts Jerry Meyer and Andrew Slater both logged predictions in favor of the Wildcats for five-star shooting guard Brandon Boston, one of the best perimeter prospects in the country and the No. 8 overall player in the 247Sports composite rankings for the class of 2020.
Boston — a 6-foot-6 recruit from the Atlanta area — visited Kentucky for a home game a few months ago and recently told the Herald-Leader that he was impressed by that trip.
His friend and Nike league teammate is five-star point guard Sharife Cooper — another top target in the 2020 class — but 247Sports national analyst Brian Snow logged a Crystal Ball pick in favor of Auburn for the Atlanta area standout Wednesday. The Tigers have been viewed in recruiting circles as the favorites to land Cooper, a 5-11 prospect who earned a UK offer last fall. Slater, Meyer and Evan Daniels had all logged previous predictions in favor of Auburn on Cooper’s Crystal Ball page.
Daniels, Snow and Slater all logged predictions in favor of Duke for five-star forward Jalen Johnson on Wednesday. Johnson — a Wisconsin native and the No. 3 player in the 2020 class — recently narrowed his list to UK, Duke, Wisconsin and Arizona, and Rivals.com national analysts Eric Bossi and Corey Evans both predicted the Blue Devils would land him in recent days.
