Five-star guard RJ Hampton is no longer considering Kentucky, his father said on a Memphis-based radio program Monday.
Hampton — a 6-foot-5 playmaker from Texas — had narrowed his recruitment to Kentucky, Kansas, Memphis and Texas Tech, and the Jayhawks have emerged as the major favorite in recent weeks. Over the weekend, national recruiting expert Andrew Slater joined 247Sports’ Evan Daniels and Jerry Meyer, and Rivals.com’s Eric Bossi and Corey Evans as the national analysts that have made predictions in favor of Kansas. All of those predictions have come since last month, and most of them were made over the past couple of weeks.
UK already has several guards and wings for next season, including returning point guards Ashton Hagans and Immanuel Quickley, and incoming point guard Tyrese Maxey. Hampton is the No. 5 overall player in the 2019 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
