In recent weeks, Matthew Murrell is a name that has popped up on UK’s basketball recruiting radar for the 2020 class.

The 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Memphis is the No. 85 overall player in that class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings, but his stock could be on the rise this summer after an impressive spring on the Under Armour circuit.

John Calipari was at one of his games during the April evaluation period, and UK has been mentioned as a possible school to watch in his recruitment.

Though hometown Memphis was one of his early scholarship offers, Murrell’s high school coach, Faragi Phillips, recently told the Des Moines Register that Penny Hardaway’s program is “no lock” to land his commitment.

Earlier this week, new Vanderbilt head coach Jerry Stackhouse hired Phillips as an assistant coach on the Commodores’ staff. On Thursday morning, 247Sports national analyst Evan Daniels logged a Crystal Ball prediction in favor of Vandy for Murrell, and national analyst Corey Evans had already logged a pick for the Commodores a couple of days earlier.
