Dante — a 7-footer from Mali — is the No. 11 prospect in the 2020 composite rankings from 247Sports, but he’s long been rumored as a candidate to reclassify to 2019, and the buzz in recruiting circles has indicated that he’s likely to make that move and play college basketball this coming season.
The news of Dante’s planned visit comes as Virginia Tech star Kerry Blackshear is still mulling his transfer decision, though Kentucky’s chances to land his commitment have dwindled in recent days. UK’s current frontcourt for next season includes Nick Richards, EJ Montgomery and graduate transfer Nate Sestina, alongside several talented guards and wings that can play multiple positions.
Dante told the Des Moines Register this week that Kentucky, Oregon, Tennessee, Michigan State and Iowa State were the schools recruiting him the hardest, and Louisiana State has also been mentioned as a possible landing spot. The Ducks have been seen as a favorite more recently, though the timing of Dante’s visit to Lexington could indicate a shift in his recruitment.
On the Nike circuit this spring, Dante has averaged 14.5 points and 8.9 rebounds with 30 blocked shots in 13 games.
