One of Kentucky’s top basketball signees for next season will meet the Wildcats’ highest-ranked recruiting target Friday night in a game that will be shown live on national television.
UK signee Brandon Boston is set to lead star-studded Sierra Canyon (Calif.) — the high school team that features the sons of NBA legends LeBron James and Dwyane Wade — against The Patrick School (N.J.), which is led by Jonathan Kuminga, the No. 1 overall player in the class of 2021.
That game will be played at 9 p.m. Friday and televised live on ESPN2.
Boston — a 6-foot-6 shooting guard — is a top-15 player in the 2020 class and was UK’s first commitment for that group. Kuminga — a 6-8 forward — is originally from the Congo and was the first player in the 2021 class to land a UK scholarship offer. He is expected to reclassify to 2020, however, and play college basketball next season, though no reclassification decision or college commitment is expected anytime soon.
UK Coach John Calipari traveled to New Jersey earlier this week to see Kuminga, and the Herald-Leader was told this week that Kentucky, Duke, Louisiana State and Texas Tech should be seen as the most likely college options for the No. 1-ranked prospect at this stage in his recruitment.
