Five-star power forward Greg Brown — the top-ranked prospect on UK’s recruiting board for 2020 — is expected in Lexington this weekend for his official visit, but there might be another favorite for his commitment.
Rivals.com national analyst Corey Evans switched his Future Cast prediction from Texas to Memphis this week, shortly after Brown and his family were in Memphis for their official visit. Brown — a 6-foot-9 prospect from Austin, Texas — is the son of a former Longhorns football star and has been widely expected to ultimately pick that school. His other finalists are Auburn and Michigan.
Memphis is still looking for its first 2020 commitment after landing the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class in 2019, which was Coach Penny Hardaway’s first full cycle with the program. Rivals.com ranks Brown as the No. 7 overall prospect in the 2020 class.
Evans’ new prediction would suggest that Brown isn’t the lock for Texas that many had assumed him to be, possibly good news for Kentucky as the Cats continue to pursue him for their 2020 class, which — as it stands now — includes just two frontcourt signees: 6-9 power forwards Isaiah Jackson and Lance Ware.
There is no exact timetable for Brown’s college decision.
