With Kentucky getting a day off from practice Wednesday, UK assistant coach Joel Justus was dispatched to Florida to check out five-star forward Brandon Huntley-Hatfield, the Herald-Leader was told.

Huntley-Hatfield — a 6-foot-8 prospect from Clarksville, Tenn. — plays for IMG Academy (Fla.) and has emerged as a consensus top-10 recruit in the 2022 class. He’s ranked by 247Sports as the No. 6 overall player in that group.

Kentucky hosted Huntley-Hatfield for a visit on Dec. 28, the day of the Wildcats’ win over Louisville, and Justus has been the primary contact in the recruitment. Huntley-Hatfield was the first player from the 2022 class to earn a UK scholarship offer, though he is widely expected to reclassify to 2021.

During an October interview, Huntley-Hatfield told the Herald-Leader that Kentucky has been his “dream school” growing up and he has a family relationship with former UK forward Alex Poythress, who is helping navigate him through his high school career and recruitment.
