Major basketball recruiting prediction goes SEC’s way

Jalen Green

At one time in this 2020 basketball recruiting cycle, five-star shooting guard Jalen Green was seen as one of Kentucky’s top targets for next season.

That changed around the time that fellow five-star shooting guards Brandon “BJ” Boston and Terrence Clarke committed to the Wildcats following the summer AAU season. UK, in effect, moved on to other priorities, and Green moved on to other schools. Memphis and Oregon were seen as the top candidates to land his commitment after that.

Now, a new team might be emerging as a real threat in the recruitment.

247Sports national analyst Jerry Meyer and national recruiting expert Andrew Slater have both logged Crystal Ball predictions in favor of Auburn on Green’s page, and a few additional picks for the Tigers have now pushed them past Memphis as the Crystal Ball favorite for Green, who is considered the No. 3 overall player in the 2020 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Green — a 6-foot-5 prospect from California — was at Auburn for an official visit last fall. The Tigers’ 2020 class is currently ranked No. 18 nationally and features five-star point guard Sharife Cooper — another former UK target — along with top 150 national players Chris Moore, a power forward from Arkansas, and Justin Powell, a shooting guard from Kentucky.

A commitment from Green would bump Auburn to the No. 6 class nationally.
