There still hasn’t been much Kentucky buzz surrounding Chet Holmgren — the No. 2 overall prospect in the 2021 class, according to 247Sports — but the high school basketball star does apparently have a group of major colleges circling his recruitment.
Holmgren has told Tipton Edits that North Carolina, Minnesota, Gonzaga, Ohio State, Memphis, Maryland, and Georgetown are the schools prioritizing him at this stage in the recruiting process.
Holmgren — a unique, versatile 7-footer from Minnesota — projects to play on the perimeter in college, and there’s been no sign of any recruiting interest on Kentucky’s end, despite Holmgren’s lofty ranking in the 2021 class. If current No. 1 prospect Jonathan Kuminga moves to the 2020 class — which he is expected to do late this summer — Holmgren would likely take the No. 1 spot in the 247Sports rankings.
Kentucky has extended scholarship offers to several players in the 2021 class, including Kuminga, point guard Kennedy Chandler, shooting guard Jaden Hardy, small forward Patrick Baldwin Jr., power forward Paolo Banchero and center Moussa Cisse, as well as 2022 power forward Brandon Huntley-Hatfield, who is widely expected to jump to the 2021 class.
