Elite basketball prospect Jabari Smith told Tipton Edits that six schools — Auburn, LSU, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida State, and Georgia Tech — are prioritizing him at this stage of his recruitment.
Smith — a highly versatile power forward from Sandy Creek, Ga. — is the No. 5 overall player in the 2021 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Kentucky showed some interest in Smith last year, but there’s been little buzz surrounding the Wildcats and his recruitment in recent months.
All six of the schools that Tipton Edits reported Saturday as prioritizing Smith have already extended scholarship offers. Smith is the son of former LSU center Jabari Smith, who was selected with the No. 45 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
Smith is still just 16 years old and doesn’t turn 17 until May. 247Sports national analyst Evan Daniels told the Herald-Leader in the fall that he had the ability to challenge for the top spot in the 2021 class.
“I thought he put himself in the conversation for a guy that could be considered the No. 1 player in the class one day,” Daniels said from USA Basketball camp. “There’s obviously some really good guys at the top, but … he made a lasting impact.”
