Grimes

Five-star combo guard Quentin Grimes has now set dates for all four of his official visits.

Grimes — a 6-foot-5 prospect from the Houston area — will see Texas first on Sept. 22, visit Kentucky the following weekend and then travel to Kansas on Oct. 13 and Marquette on Oct. 20. 247Sports national analyst Andrew Slater reported those visit dates Friday.

Kansas has long been seen as the favorite in Grimes’ recruitment, though UK seems to be making some progress. He was the first player from the class of 2018 to have an in-home visit with John Calipari during the fall recruiting period, hosting the UK coach for a meeting last weekend. In an odd twist, Grimes will visit UK during Kansas’ midnight madness event, and he’ll be visiting Lawrence during the Wildcats’ Big Blue Madness.

UK assistant coach Joel Justus is meeting with five-star point guard Immanuel Quickley in Maryland on Tuesday afternoon, the Herald-Leader has learned, three days before the highly touted playmaker takes his official visit to Lexington.

Quickley — a 6-foot-3 prospect from the Baltimore area — has narrowed his recruiting list to Kentucky, Kansas and Miami, and he took an official visit to KU earlier this month. He was scheduled to officially visit Miami this past weekend, but that trip was postponed due to Hurricane Irma. It has not yet been rescheduled.

Kentucky will host Quickley for an official visit starting Friday and ending Sunday morning. The Wildcats are heavy favorites to land Quickley, the No. 8 overall prospect in the 2018 class, according to Scout.com.

Before getting started with his in-home recruiting visits Monday, five-star basketball prospect Zion Williamson took in the high-profile Clemson-Auburn football game at Clemson, one of the schools on his list, Saturday night.

Bol Bol

John Calipari is expected to be in California next weekend for a meeting with five-star recruit Bol Bol, his mother told the Herald-Leader on Sunday.

Bol — a 7-foot-3 power forward at Mater Dei (Calif.) — is ranked by Scout.com as the No. 2 overall recruit in the class of 2018. Five-star wing R.J. Barrett is the only player ranked ahead of Bol on that list, and Barrett was in Lexington earlier this month for his official visit to Kentucky.

Calipari coached Bol at the Team USA training camp in Colorado Springs in June, but Bol did not make the final USA Basketball squad that traveled with UK’s coach to play in the FIBA World Cup in Egypt, an omission that some analysts predicted might hurt UK’s recruitment of Bol, who had previously expressed considerable interest in the Wildcats’ program.
