UK guard Isaiah Briscoe is on one of the covers for the Athlon Sports college basketball preview magazine this season.

This year’s edition of the Athlon Sports college basketball preseason magazine arrived at Next Cats headquarters last week, and there’s (naturally) quite a bit of Kentucky-related info inside.

Sophomore guard Isaiah Briscoe graces one of 12 regional covers of the magazine, but many of the Wildcats mentioned within are from John Calipari’s latest No. 1 recruiting class.

Bam Adebayo, De’Aaron Fox and Malik Monk are all listed among 17 “impact freshman” nationally, while Adebayo is one of five newcomers on the first-team All-Freshman squad. (Fox is on the second team).

There’s a list of superlatives — open to all classes — that includes Fox (floor leaders), Monk (scorers) and Adebayo (post-men) all among the top 10 in the country. Adebayo is also listed as the Southeastern Conference newcomer of the year and, along with Fox, a first-team All-SEC selection.

Eleven of the best prep school basketball teams in North America will compete for the Grind Session national championship in Lawrence, Kan., later this week, bringing some of the top recruits in the country to the University of Kansas’ backyard.

The tournament will feature teams that have competed at Grind Session events throughout the country this season — including four in Kentucky — and also includes a couple of major UK recruiting targets.

Class of 2017 stars DeAndre Ayton (Hillcrest) and Jarred Vanderbilt (Victory Prep) will both play in the tournament. Ayton — the No. 1 player in the junior class — has repeatedly said that UK, Duke and Kansas are his top three schools. Vanderbilt — a top-10 recruit from Texas — is also high on the Wildcats and attended a game in Rupp Arena this season.

Ken Pomeroy released his updated Top 10 for the 2016-17 season early Sunday morning, and Louisville and Kentucky are the top two teams in the rankings.

Pomeroy — the man behind the widely cited KenPom.com efficiency rankings — tweeted that the early 2016-17 rankings are contingent on the departure of all players projected as first-round picks by DraftExpress.com, and the return of all other eligible players.

That would mean UK would lose Jamal Murray, Skal Labissiere and Tyler Ulis, as well as senior Alex Poythress, but Isaiah Briscoe and Marcus Lee would return to join what John Calipari has called perhaps his best recruiting class ever.
