Brandon Boston

Rivals.com finalized its class of 2020 basketball rankings this week, and the list included three Kentucky signees in five-star territory with the other three all inside the national top 50.

Brandon Boston remains Kentucky’s top-ranked recruit in the class, sticking at No. 4 overall in the final Rivals rankings. ESPN and 247Sports also ranked Boston as the Wildcats’ top signee, with 247 putting him at No. 5 and ESPN placing him sixth nationally.

Fellow UK shooting guard signee Terrence Clarke fell two spots in the final Rivals 150 but still comes in at No. 7 overall, making Kentucky the only school in the 2020 cycle to land two players inside the top 10.

Boston

247Sports posted its final recruiting rankings for the basketball class of 2020, and Kentucky signee Brandon Boston was one of the biggest risers.

Boston moved from No. 16 to No. 5 nationally, making him the Wildcats’ top-ranked signee in their No. 1 recruiting class. He’s also the first Kentucky recruit to finish in the top five of the 247Sports rankings since Skal Labissiere was the No. 2 overall prospect in 2015.

UK signee Terrence Clarke fell from No. 4 to No. 9 in the final rankings, one of four future Wildcats to drop from the previous update. Point guard signee Devin Askew moved from No. 28 to No. 34, power forward Lance Ware fell from No. 36 to No. 40, and wing prospect Cam’Ron Fletcher dropped from No. 47 to No. 73.

Ware

Three Kentucky basketball signees — Brandon Boston, Terrence Clarke and Lance Ware — have all been selected to play in this year’s Iverson Classic postseason all-star event.

The Iverson Classic selections were announced Monday and also included Cliff Omoruyi, one of UK’s top remaining recruiting targets for the 2020 class. Ware and Omoruyi were not picked for the McDonald’s All-American Game last month. Four-star forward JT Thor, another uncommitted 2020 recruit who has been linked to Kentucky, was also selected for the Iverson Classic.

Brandon Boston

ESPN updated its basketball recruiting rankings for all classes Wednesday morning, and a future Kentucky Wildcat made a major move at the top of the 2020 list.

UK signee Brandon Boston — a 6-foot-6 shooting guard — jumped from No. 12 to No. 6 overall in the 2020 class with his stellar season so far for star-studded Sierra Canyon, the California super-team that features several other Division I prospects, including the sons of NBA legends LeBron James and Dwyane Wade.

Boston is now Kentucky’s highest-ranked signee, according to ESPN, which placed fellow shooting guard Terrence Clarke two spots lower at No. 8 overall. Point guard Devin Askew dropped one spot to No. 25 overall, power forward Isaiah Jackson dropped three spots to No. 30, power forward Lance Ware moved up five spots to No. 40, and four-star wing Cam’Ron Fletcher dropped 11 spots to No. 58 in the 2020 rankings.

Askew

Three future Kentucky players and one major UK basketball target were among the 25 high school seniors included Thursday on the Naismith midseason team, which serves as watch list for the annual award given to the top player in the country.

UK signees Devin Askew, Brandon Boston and Terrence Clarke all made the list, as did five-star forward Greg Brown, who visited Lexington last weekend and has narrowed his college choices to Kentucky, Auburn, Memphis, Michigan and Texas, his hometown school.

Clarke

The ESPN 100 basketball recruiting rankings for the class of 2020 were updated Thursday, and all six of Kentucky’s early signees were listed in the top 50.

Terrence Clarke, who was first inserted into the ESPN rankings at No. 13 overall after he reclassified from 2021 to 2010, is now rated as the No. 7 player in the class. That ranking is still curiously low compared to the other national recruiting services: Rivals.com and 247Sports both have Clarke at No. 4 overall, and Rivals national analyst Eric Bossi implied this week that it would be difficult for anyone to knock the future Wildcat out of the top five.

Todd

A few recruiting notes for Thursday …

Kentucky coaches will be in North Carolina on Monday — the first day of the fall recruiting period — to see five-star forward Isaiah Todd, according to USA Today’s Jason Jordan. Todd is one of the Wildcats’ top remaining targets for the 2020 class and an important prospect as UK looks to add some frontcourt players to its group of commitments for next year.

UK coaches will also be in Memphis later this month to see 2021 point guard Kennedy Chandler, according to the Commercial Appeal’s Mark Giannotto. Chandler has emerged as a five-star recruit in the 2021 class and has been on UK’s radar for a while. Giannotto also reported that coaches from Duke and Tennessee are expected to visit Chandler next week to start off the fall recruiting period.

Sissoko

Two basketball prospects in the class of 2020 that have been linked to Kentucky but are still waiting on scholarship offers from the Wildcats are the subjects of new predictions from national recruiting analysts.

Rivals.com national analyst Corey Evans has logged a pick in favor of Oklahoma State for JT Thor, a highly touted forward who recently announced a move from the 2021 class to 2020, where he’s ranked No. 53 overall by Rivals.com.

Thor — a 6-foot-9 prospect now at Norcross (Ga.) — visited UK multiple times while he was a student at nearby Huntington (W.Va.) Prep, but he has not received a Kentucky scholarship offer.

RJ Hampton

Due to offseason changes in the recruiting calendar, there’s only one live evaluation period this spring, and Kentucky’s coaching staff made the most of it by going all-in on the Nike circuit Friday night.

John Calipari started things off by watching a game featuring five-star guard RJ Hampton and five-star wing Cade Cunningham — both 2020 recruits — alongside assistant coach Tony Barbee. That game also featured five-star forward Greg Brown, who has not been linked to UK but is the No. 6 overall player in the 2020 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
