Florida is still waiting on the academic status of McDonald’s All-American Chris Walker, according to several reports out of the SEC spring meetings in Destin, Fla., on Wednesday.

Gators Coach Billy Donovan told reporters that he has his “fingers crossed” regarding Walker’s academic situation and should know more in a couple of weeks, according to the Orlando Sentinel. Walker, who was recruited by UK but never received a scholarship offer, is considered the No. 8 overall player in the class of 2013 by Scout.com.

The 6-foot-10 power forward is one of two McDonald’s All-Americans — along with point guard Kasey Hill — in Florida’s recruiting class.

The Gainesville Sun reported in April that Walker was “making progress” academically.

Walker talked to the Herald-Leader a few weeks ago about his future at Florida and shared his thoughts about Kentucky’s No. 1-ranked recruiting class.

CHICAGO — Chris Walker waited all summer for a Kentucky scholarship offer that never came his way.

One of the top 10 recruits in the country entering his senior season at Holmes County High in Bonifay, Fla., Walker wasn’t shy about his interest in the Cats. UK was considered the favorite at one point, and the 6-foot-10 forward publicly postponed a planned college announcement and said he wanted to hear from John Calipari before making his final decision.

When Calipari didn’t come through with the offer, Walker lashed out on Twitter.

That move didn’t work, the offer never came, and Walker moved on.

But what happened with Kentucky?

“Nothing happened there,” Walker said Tuesday. “I’m committed to Florida now, so that’s the only thing I’m really worried about.”

John Calipari told Chris Walker to be patient. The 2013 prospect decided he was tired of waiting.

Walker committed to homestate Florida on Sunday morning, putting an end to several months of speculation over when (or if) Calipari was going to offer him a UK scholarship. The situation boiled over on Twitter earlier this year when Walker tweeted at the UK coach and then said if the Cats weren’t interested in him, he wasn’t interested in them.

Fences were mended within a few days, but the scholarship offer never came. And Walker found a place that wanted him more. He chose the Gators over Louisville and Kansas, who had offered him scholarships, and Kentucky, which hadn’t.

Chris Walker

2013 forward Chris Walker said via Twitter early Sunday morning that he would announce his college decision Sunday at 8 a.m.

Walker tweeted that he would choose either Louisville, Florida, Kentucky or Kansas. A consensus top-10 recruit, Walker has been publicly lobbying for a scholarship offer from UK for months. Assistant coach John Robic was in Indianapolis to see Walker play last weekend, but there’s been no indication that the Florida native has received that offer. He does have confirmed offers from the other three schools on his list.

Chris Walker wants a scholarship offer from Kentucky, and he wants it now.

The consensus top-10 recruit from 2013 told Rivals.com on Thursday that he didn’t feel like a priority for UK. He said he was “sort of” bothered by the fact that he’s still waiting on a scholarship offer despite drawing rave reviews from recruiting analysts and NBA scouts this spring. He also said if the UK offer doesn’t come soon, the Cats might as well not even bother.
