Five-star point guard Darius Garland is staying home for college.

Garland — a 6-foot-1 prospect in the class of 2018 — committed to hometown Vanderbilt on Monday, he announced during a ceremony at his high school. The No. 10 player in the 2018 composite rankings had narrowed his list to Kentucky, Indiana, UCLA and Vandy, though UK had always been viewed as a major long-shot in his recruitment.

Kentucky has already signed five-star point guard Immanuel Quickley — the No. 8 player in the 2018 rankings — and could return freshman point guards Quade Green and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for next season.

Five-star point guard Darius Garland will announce his college decision Monday at 3:45 p.m. from his Nashville-area high school.

Garland — a 6-foot-1 prospect — has narrowed his college choices to Indiana, Kentucky, UCLA and hometown Vanderbilt. He has taken official visits to all four of those schools this fall, including a trip to UK’s Big Blue Madness last month.

Vanderbilt has taken over as the favorite on Garland’s 247Sports Crystal Ball page in recent weeks, and Indiana has been seen as the Commodores’ top competition heading into Monday’s announcement.

247Sports national analyst Jerry Meyer has logged Crystal Ball predictions in favor of Indiana for five-star point guard Darius Garland and five-star shooting guard Romeo Langford.

Garland and Langford are both top-10 players in the recruiting class of 2018, and both prospects are Indiana natives. Garland was born in Gary, Ind., and has since moved to the Nashville area, and Langford is a senior at New Albany (Ind.) High School.

Meyer was previously predicting Vanderbilt for Garland and Kansas for Langford.

The Vanderbilt basketball program is in for a very big recruiting weekend, with three five-star players expected to be on campus for the Commodores’ football game against No. 1-ranked Alabama.

Langford — a 6-foot-5 player from New Albany, Ind. — includes the Dores on his list of seven schools.

INDIANAPOLIS — He’s the No. 1 point guard in the recruiting class of 2018, according to the 247Sports composite rankings, but Darius Garland said Friday night that he’s barely heard from the University of Kentucky.

Garland — a 6-foot-1 prospect from Brentwood, Tenn. — said John Calipari did come to one of his games this past season, and UK’s coaches have been in contact with his high school coach a couple of times, but that’s been about it.

“Nothing really,” he said. “They have all the guards that they need. They have great, great guards, actually.”
