Class of 2015 combo guard Eric Davis is ready to announce his college decision.

The 6-foot-3 prospect will reveal his choice Sept. 16 at his high school in Saginaw, Mich. The four-star recruit has visited Kentucky twice but does not have a scholarship offer from the Wildcats.

His finalists that have offered are Michigan, Michigan State, N.C. State, Texas, Louisiana State and UNLV. Davis took an official visit to Texas at the end of August and has also used an official visit to see UNLV recently.

Scout.com ranks Davis as the No. 44 overall prospect in the class of 2015.

There’s still no Kentucky scholarship offer for talented guard Eric Davis, but his high school coach says everything is “moving in the right direction” for the four-star basketball prospect.

Davis — a 6-foot-3 player from Saginaw, Mich. — made his second unofficial visit to UK over the weekend. He was also in town last October for Big Blue Madness, an event that attracted a few more immediate recruiting targets.

“He really didn’t have a chance to see the campus and spend time with Coach (John Calipari) the last time he was there, because it was so busy,” Arthur Hill Coach Greg McMath told the Herald-Leader. “So he wanted to get back down there and take a look at the facilities, the school and everything that you’re trying to get a feel for.

“He thought it went well.”

Michigan combo guard Eric Davis will take an unofficial visit to Kentucky on Saturday, his high school coach told the Herald-Leader.

Davis — a 6-foot-2 prospect in the class of 2015 — previously visited UK for Big Blue Madness last October.

He is also considering Michigan, Michigan State, N.C. State, Texas, UCLA and UNLV. Kentucky is the only school remaining on his list that has not offered a scholarship, though the Wildcats coaching staff has been in regular contact recently.

Michigan basketball standout Eric Davis announced Thursday that he has narrowed his list to seven schools, including Kentucky.

The 6-foot-3 combo guard from Saginaw, Mich., is also considering Michigan, Michigan State, N.C. State, Texas, UCLA and UNLV. He is scheduled to take an official visit to UNLV this weekend.

Scout.com ranks Davis as the No. 32 overall prospect in the class of 2015, and he is considered a top-40 player by every major recruiting service.

Davis has already visited UK — for last year’s Big Blue Madness — and he’s expected to be back in Lexington again in the near future. He does not have a scholarship offer from the Wildcats, but UK’s coaches have remained in contact over the past few months.

He told the Herald-Leader in June that he won’t rush a college decision and is planning to take his time with the recruiting process.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — For the time being, Mississippi basketball star Malik Newman is the only uncommitted guard from the class of 2015 with a scholarship offer from Kentucky.

That doesn’t mean John Calipari isn’t looking elsewhere.

One player on the UK coach’s radar is Eric Davis, a 6-foot-2 prospect from Saginaw, Mich.

Davis got off to a slow start at the NBPA Top 100 Camp before erupting for 32 points in the final session of games Thursday night. At that point, it was the highest scoring total of anyone at the high-profile showcase.

“I was just having fun, man,” Davis said the next day. “I was in the zone. And when I’m in the zone, I feel like I can always knock down shots. I just kept believing and my shot started falling once I got going on the defensive end. I’m starting to learn that I have to get myself going on the defensive end first, then my offensive game will pick up.”

Most of the recruiting attention in Rupp Arena on Friday night will be focused on the quartet of 2014 recruits visiting for Big Blue Madness.

One of the top point guards in the Class of 2015 will also be in Lexington that night, and UK has apparently already made quite an impression.

Michigan junior Eric Davis is considered the No. 22 overall prospect in his class by Scout.com. Arthur Hill High Coach Greg McMath said John Calipari is the one who invited Davis to Madness.

“He really likes him, because Eric is a big point guard that can score the ball,” McMath told the Herald-Leader. “That’s Coach Cal’s style. He’s had great success with guards like that — Derrick Rose, John Wall — those guys that can run the point and also score for you.”
