Keldon Johnson

There will be no rest for Keldon Johnson this week.

After several days of practices leading up to Wednesday night’s McDonald’s All-American Game in Atlanta, the UK signee will play next in the GEICO Nationals — a nationwide tournament featuring the best high school players in the country — Thursday afternoon.

Johnson and Oak Hill Academy (Va.) face Garfield (Wash.) at 4 p.m. Thursday on ESPNU in the first round of the tournament. If Oak Hill wins that one, it will play in the semifinals at 3 p.m. Friday on ESPN2. The finals are set for noon Saturday on ESPN2.

Kentucky missed out on No. 1 recruit R.J. Barrett on Friday, but the Wildcats look to be in a good spot to land five-star prospect Keldon Johnson on Saturday night.

Johnson — a 6-foot-6 shooting guard from Oak Hill Academy (Va.) — is set to announce his college decision at 6 p.m. Saturday, and the finalists are Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina State and Texas. He’ll reveal his college choice a day after Barrett — a 6-7 shooting guard from Canada — committed to Duke over UK.

Johnson

247Sports national analyst Andrew Slater has changed his Crystal Ball prediction for five-star recruit Keldon Johnson from Texas to Kentucky.

Johnson — a 6-foot-6 wing from Oak Hill Academy (Va.) — has been recruited by Texas Coach Shaka Smart since he was in the ninth grade, but Kentucky extended a scholarship offer in August and has come on strong in recent weeks.

Maryland and North Carolina State are also finalists for Johnson, who has already taken official visits to all four schools and has been on UK’s campus numerous times for recruiting visits.

Johnson

Two weeks ago, after receiving a scholarship offer from the University of Kentucky, it seemed like five-star shooting guard Keldon Johnson would ultimately be part of the Wildcats’ recruiting class of 2018.

Coming out of this past weekend’s official visit to Texas, that recruitment might be looking a little different.

247Sports national analysts Jerry Meyer and Andrew Slater both switched their Crystal Ball picks for Johnson from Kentucky to Texas on Monday, shortly after the Oak Hill Academy star wrapped up his official visit to Austin.

Five-star basketball recruit Keldon Johnson — the newest recipient of a UK scholarship offer — took an unofficial visit to North Carolina State over the weekend.

Johnson — a 6-foot-6 wing from South Hill, Va. — will be a senior at Oak Hill Academy this season and is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 11 overall recruit in the 2018 class. He is scheduled to take official visits to Texas, Florida State and Maryland next month.

UK hosted Johnson for an unofficial visit last week and extended a scholarship offer during that trip. Kentucky has since emerged as the favorite in Johnson’s recruitment.

That didn’t take long.

A few hours after word leaked out that Kentucky had extended a scholarship offer to five-star basketball recruit Keldon Johnson, the Wildcats took over the lead on the Virginia native’s 247Sports Crystal Ball page.

Johnson — a 6-foot-6 wing from South Hill, Va. — earned his UK offer during an unofficial visit to Lexington on Tuesday. By Tuesday night, 247Sports national analysts Jerry Meyer and Andrew Slater had changed their Crystal Ball picks for Johnson to UK, and a few others did the same.

Johnson

Five-star basketball recruit Keldon Johnson took an unofficial visit to Kentucky on Tuesday, and the Herald-Leader has been told that he picked up a scholarship offer from the Wildcats during the trip.

Johnson — a 6-foot-6 wing from South Hill, Va. — spent last season at nearby Huntington (W.Va.) Prep and took a couple of unofficial visits to UK during his time with that school. He transferred to Oak Hill for his final year of high school and is scheduled to be back in the state for the Marshall County Hoop Fest in early December.

247Sports ranks Johnson as the No. 11 overall recruit and No. 2 shooting guard in the 2018 class. Texas, Maryland and Kansas are among the schools that have extended scholarship offers and are thought to be at the top of Johnson’s list.

Johnson

247Sports national analyst Jerry Meyer has logged a “Crystal Ball” pick in favor of Texas for Huntington Prep (W.Va.) star Keldon Johnson, one of the top basketball recruits in the class of 2018.

Johnson — a 6-foot-6 prospect from South Hill, Va. — has been one of the top scorers on the Nike circuit this spring, and he’s visited UK multiple times over the past year. The Wildcats have yet to extend a scholarship offer, but UK’s coaches have been watching Johnson this spring.
