Five-star basketball recruit Louis King has narrowed his list to eight schools, and Kentucky is not one of them.

King — a 6-foot-7 small forward from New Jersey — is ranked by Scout.com as the No. 20 recruit in the class of 2018, and he was one of four high school players chosen for John Calipari’s USA Basketball U19 squad that competed in the FIBA World Cup last month.

Calipari praised King’s play at times — and the player implied over the summer that if he received a UK scholarship offer he would likely commit to the Cats — but it became clear in the weeks after of the Team USA trip to Egypt that King would not be getting an offer from UK, which is also recruiting five-star wings R.J. Barrett, Cameron Reddish and Zion Williamson.

247Sports national recruiting insider Andrew Slater made a Crystal Ball change Tuesday, switching a prediction for five-star forward Louis King from Kentucky to Oregon.

King — a 6-foot-7 prospect from New Jersey — played on John Calipari’s USA Basketball U19 team last month in Egypt and has played several games in front of the UK coach on the Nike circuit this summer. Still, he does not have a scholarship offer from the Wildcats.

Oregon has been prioritizing King for months, and he’s expected to announce a shortened list sometime soon. He is the No. 14 overall prospect in the 2018 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

247Sports recruiting analyst Andrew Slater has logged a new Crystal Ball pick in favor of Kentucky for five-star prospect Louis King, who was a member of John Calipari’s USA Basketball U19 team earlier this month.

King — a 6-foot-7 small forward from Hudson, N.J. — is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 14 overall prospect in the class of 2018, and he hasn’t been shy about his wish for a UK scholarship offer in recent interviews. He plays on the same Nike-affiliated summer team as Cameron Reddish and is close friends with the UK recruiting target.

Reddish told the Herald-Leader last week that he thinks King will get that offer from Kentucky sometime soon.

UK has 100 percent of the picks on King’s Crystal Ball page.
