John Calipari’s signature recruiting event — Big Blue Madness — will feature another star-studded guest list this year.

Those expected to be in town Friday night include top class of 2017 targets Quade Green, Kevin Knox, Nick Richards, PJ Washington and Trae Young, as well as 2018’s Romeo Langford, Immanuel Quickley and Cameron Reddish and 2019’s Christian Brown, Ashton Hagans and Trendon Watford.

This will be Calipari’s eighth Big Blue Madness, and past editions have included many of his top recruits at Kentucky as well as some talented high schoolers who ultimately chose other colleges.

The Lexington Center Corp., announced Tuesday that the New Orleans Pelicans and Sacramento Kings will play an exhibition game in Rupp Arena on Oct. 17.

That just happens to be the night after Big Blue Madness, and the many high-profile recruits who will surely visit for that event will almost certainly still be in town to see the NBA game.

Madness is typically the biggest recruiting weekend of the year for UK, which uses the sold-out showcase as a selling point to recruits.

Drake showed up and stole the show at Big Blue Madness on Friday night, introducing UK Coach John Calipari to the Rupp Arena crowd and even taking part in the layup line before the Cats scrimmaged.

Some of UK’s current players tweeted photos with the popular recording artist. A few of Calipari’s visiting recruits also got in on the action (and at least a couple were left wishing they had made the trip):

For about 10 minutes Friday night, some of the best high school basketball talent in the country was gathered in a tunnel leading to the Rupp Arena floor.

While the Kentucky women’s team finished up its scrimmage, Stanley Johnson chatted with Trey Lyles, parents and coaches mingled and UK assistant coach Orlando Antigua kept a close watch on the court.

After Coach Matthew Mitchell and the women’s team filed off the floor, Antigua gave the signal. With James Blackmon Jr. leading the way, John Calipari’s recruits walked out of the tunnel, onto the court and down one sideline to their seats near the Big Blue Madness stage.

The Rupp crowd went wild.

UK is expecting a dozen recruits in Rupp Arena for Friday night’s Big Blue Madness, and many are among the best players in the country. Two of the prospects — Karl Towns Jr. and Tyler Ulis — are already committed to the Wildcats.

Scout.com national analyst Evan Daniels talked to the Herald-Leader about the other players on UK’s guest list. Here are his thoughts …

Stanley Johnson | No. 6 overall in 2014

Daniels on Johnson: “He’s improved a great deal. And that’s a testament to how hard Stanley works. His ball handling and all-around ball skills have improved a great deal. His jump shot has improved a great deal. He’s always had elite intangibles. And Stanley’s always been a winner. He’s a very good rebounder. He takes pride in his defense. He does a lot of the little things, but then he went out and improved his ball skills, he improved his jump shot, he’s turned into a much better scorer. He made drastic improvements to his game and that’s a testament to how hard he works and how much time he spends in the gym.

Former Kentucky standouts John Wall, Anthony Davis and Darius Miller will all be attending Big Blue Madness on Friday night.

Wall went on Friday morning’s Joe B. and Denny Show and said he plans to be in Rupp Arena for UK’s season-opening event. A New Orleans Pelicans spokesman told the Herald-Leader that Davis and Miller will also be there.

The three players are in Lexington for Saturday night’s pre-season game between the Wizards and the Pelicans. That game will also be played in Rupp Arena.

The most memorable moment of the 2009 Big Blue Madness — John Calipari’s first at UK — was arguably Wall’s introduction, when he broke out the “John Wall Dance” for the Rupp crowd. He played one season for the Wildcats and was taken with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft.

Wall signed a five-year, $80 million contract extension with the Wizards earlier this year.

Davis and Miller helped lead Kentucky to the national championship in 2012. Both players are entering their second seasons with the Pelicans.

Big Blue Madness was a big deal before John Calipari got to Lexington in 2009. It’s safe to say the UK head coach has taken it to another level.

Friday night will mark Calipari’s fifth Big Blue Madness at Kentucky, and he’s hosted some of the nation’s top recruits along the way. Here’s a rundown of every prospect who has been in Rupp Arena since Calipari took over four years ago. We’ll start with the guys confirmed to be in town this weekend …

2013: Year Five

Karl Towns* (senior): Metuchen, N.J., center will be in Rupp Arena for his second Madness at UK, but first since he committed to the Wildcats. Scout.com ranks him as the No. 10 overall prospect in the Class of 2014.

Tyler Ulis* (senior): Chicago point guard is attending Madness a month after his commitment to UK. Scout.com ranks him as the No. 29 overall prospect in the Class of 2014.

The guest list for Friday night’s Big Blue Madness is starting to clear up a couple of days before the big event.

Confirmed visitors include 2014 commitment Tyler Ulis and uncommitted 2014 prospects Stanley Johnson, Trey Lyles and James Blackmon Jr. The latter three will all be using official visits for this weekend’s trip. Ulis committed to UK a few days after his official visit to Lexington last month.

Michigan point guard Eric Davis is the only player from the Class of 2015 who has been confirmed as a Madness visitor. His high school coach talked to the Herald-Leader on Tuesday about the upcoming trip and Davis’ recruitment.
