Five-star basketball recruit Moses Brown announced Monday that he has committed to UCLA, picking the Bruins over fellow finalists Florida State and Maryland.

Brown — a 7-footer from Bronx, N.Y. — hosted UK Coach John Calipari for a visit in November, and Calipari then watched Brown play with his high school team twice over the next few weeks, but the Wildcats never came through with a scholarship offer. Brown is the No. 21 overall prospect in the 2018 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Moses Brown

John Calipari showed up at the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass., on Sunday afternoon to check out Moses Brown and other basketball recruits in the 2018 and 2019 classes.

Brown — a 7-footer from Bronx, N.Y. — is one of the top centers in the class of 2018, and Calipari also visited him in November and watched him play last month. Other than Zion Williamson, who will announce his college decision Jan. 20, Brown has been the only recruit on Calipari’s 2018 radar in recent months, though he does not yet have a scholarship offer from the Wildcats.

Bryan Antoine and Scottie Lewis — two of UK’s top targets in the class of 2019 — are also scheduled to play at the Hoophall Classic on Sunday. The Monday slate of games includes UK signees Immanuel Quickley and Keldon Johnson, as well as top-ranked 2019 prospect Vernon Carey, who has an early offer from UK.

Brown

National recruiting analyst Andrew Slater logged a Crystal Ball pick in favor of Florida State for five-star center Moses Brown over the weekend.

Brown — a 7-foot-1 prospect from New York — hosted UK Coach John Calipari for an in-home visit in early November, and Brown’s father told the Herald-Leader then that Calipari was hoping the family could take an official visit to Kentucky before the end of the early signing period.

A scholarship offer from the Wildcats was expected to come on that trip, but Brown and his family were unable to make it that weekend, and there’s been little buzz about UK’s recruitment of him since that in-home visit.

Brown — a 7-footer from New York — visited with Calipari and UK assistant coach Tony Barbee on Sunday. Brown is the No. 15 overall player in the 2018 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

National recruiting analyst Andrew Slater also logged a Crystal Ball pick in favor of Kentucky for Brown on Sunday. Until Slater’s prediction, Brown’s Crystal Ball page was 100 percent Maryland picks, while UCLA had also been mentioned as a possible landing spot in recent weeks.

UPDATE: Brown’s father talks to us about Calipari’s Sunday visit.
