UK Coach John Calipari is due in Texas on Wednesday for a visit with five-star guard RJ Hampton, according to a report from Rivals.com national analyst Corey Evans on Tuesday night.

Hampton — one of the top guards in high school basketball — is the No. 5 overall prospect in the 2020 class, but he is widely expected to reclassify to 2019 and play college ball next season. He has narrowed his recruitment to Kentucky, Kansas, Duke and Memphis.

Evans is predicting Hampton ends up at Kansas, with Memphis as the top competition, though Calipari’s planned visit is evidence that Kentucky will not be giving up on his recruitment despite the roster presence of five-star point guards Ashton Hagans, Tyrese Maxey and Immanuel Quickley for next season.

Rivals.com national analysts Eric Bossi and Corey Evans have logged new predictions on a couple of major UK basketball targets over the past few days, and both picks have gone against the Wildcats.

Bossi has put in a prediction in favor of Duke for five-star forward Matthew Hurt, who is expected to choose among the Blue Devils, Kentucky, Kansas and North Carolina on Friday afternoon. Duke has emerged as the major favorite in Hurt’s recruitment over the past few weeks, and several national analysts are predicting the Blue Devils will land his commitment going into Friday’s announcement.

Five-star guard RJ Hampton landed a scholarship offer from Kentucky on Tuesday, becoming the seventh player in the 2020 class to confirm such an offer from the Wildcats.

This one wasn’t a surprise. Hampton has long been one of the top stars in the 2020 class and was actually the first prospect from that group to have an in-home visit with John Calipari last month, meeting with the UK coach just a few days into the fall recruiting period.

RJ Hampton

John Calipari and UK assistant coach Tony Barbee were in Texas on Wednesday to check in on RJ Hampton, one of the top recruits in the class of 2020.

Calipari has been all over the country since the fall recruiting period began Sunday, primarily meeting with prospects from the 2019 class. The UK coach uses this recruiting window to establish early relationships with younger players, however, and his visit to Hampton so early in the week shows that the 6-foot-4 guard should be considered a major UK target moving forward.

Kentucky, Duke and Kansas are among the many programs that have been tracking Hampton, who is the No. 5 overall recruit in the 2020 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Five-star guard RJ Hampton announced on social media Friday that he intends to stay in the class of 2020, following months of speculation that he would move to the 2019 class in an attempt to play college basketball next season.

Hampton — a 6-foot-4 prospect from Little Elm, Texas — was one of the top stars on the Under Armour circuit this past summer and is considered to be the No. 4 overall recruit in the 2020 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
