Kentucky is no longer considered to be a serious player in the recruitment of five-star power forward Simi Shittu.

Shittu — a 6-foot-10 prospect from Ontario — announced official visits Thursday for Vanderbilt on Oct. 6, Arizona on Nov. 3 and North Carolina on Nov. 10. He told Scout.com’s Evan Daniels that South Carolina is the only other school he considers to be “still involved” in his recruitment, and the Herald-Leader confirmed that UK is moving in a different direction.

John Calipari extended a scholarship offer to under-the-radar power forward Jaxson Hayes on Tuesday night.

The emergence of power forward Jaxson Hayes as a serious UK recruiting target Tuesday night might also mean the Cats’ pursuit of top-10 prospect Simi Shittu is nearing an end.

A few minutes after Hayes — an under-the-radar player in the class of 2018 — received a scholarship offer from Kentucky, the Herald-Leader was told by Shittu’s high school coach, Alex Popp, that Shittu had not yet scheduled a visit to Lexington. The Herald-Leader had reached out to Popp several days earlier to check on Shittu’s status with the Wildcats following John Calipari’s trip to Vermont Academy last week to see him in an open gym.

Five-star forward Simi Shittu narrowed his recruiting list to 10 schools Sunday, and Kentucky made the cut despite not having officially extended a scholarship offer to the versatile Canadian prospect.

Shittu — a 6-foot-8 player from Ontario — is now considering UK, Arizona, Arizona State, New Mexico, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Oregon, South Carolina, UConn and Vanderbilt, he announced Sunday.

There has been no confirmation of a Kentucky scholarship offer for Shittu yet, but Coach John Calipari made a special trip to Canada to see him play last month and the Herald-Leader has been told that UK is hoping Shittu will visit Lexington sometime soon. If that trip happens, a scholarship offer from the Wildcats is expected to be forthcoming.

247Sports recruiting insider Andrew Slater logged a prediction in favor of Kentucky on the Crystal Ball page of five-star forward Simi Shittu on Monday night.

Shittu — a 6-foot-9 prospect from Ontario — is entering his senior year at Vermont Academy and is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 8 overall player in the recruiting class of 2018.

UK Coach John Calipari has not yet extended a scholarship offer to Shittu, but he did travel to Canada this past weekend to see him play, and Shittu is one of a handful of 2018 recruits who could realistically land a UK offer sometime soon.

John Calipari arrived in Canada on Saturday afternoon for the Classic Exposure Camp, which will feature, among others, five-star forward Simi Shittu.

The UK coach has shown an increased interest in Shittu’s recruitment in recent days after watching him during the first two July evaluation periods. This weekend marks the third and final evaluation period of the summer, and Calipari spent the first few days of this one in Las Vegas, where most of the country’s top prospects were playing with their shoe-company travel teams.
