BENTON, Ky. — UK signee Skal Labissiere scored 33 points in an amazing individual performance against Oak Hill Academy at the Marshall County Hoop Fest on Friday night.

After the game, he discussed a wide range of topics related to his high school career and his recruitment:

What was it like playing in Kentucky for the first time as a UK signee?

“It was fun. I saw how crazy the fans are and how much they care about their players. It was a great experience.”

BENTON, Ky. – A few minutes after Skal Labissiere played his first game in Kentucky as a UK signee, his legal guardian stood on the court and spoke to reporters for nearly 30 minutes.

Gerald Hamilton, the man who brought Labissiere to the United States from Haiti four years ago and has been at the middle of his recruitment, declined to specifically address many of the negative stories that have been written about him in recent months, but he was clear about one thing.

Hamilton is not at all worried about Labissiere’s eligibility at Kentucky.

UK basketball signees Skal Labissiere and Maci Morris will both play within about an hour’s drive of Lexington this weekend.

The two future Wildcats — and several other highly touted recruits — are set to appear in the Legacy Nissan Classic at North Laurel High School in London. The three-day event begins Friday night.

Morris and the Bell County girls team will start things off against host North Laurel on Friday at 5:30 p.m. Morris signed with UK last month and is considered the No. 44 national prospect in the class of 2015, according to the All-Star Girls Report recruiting service. Five-star power forward Skal Labissiere announced his commitment to Kentucky on Thursday and is expected to sign his national letter of intent with the school Friday afternoon.

But there is no guarantee that Labissiere will ever play for the Wildcats.

CBS Sports national college basketball writer Gary Parrish has covered Labissiere’s recruitment for more than two years, and his latest article on the subject raises more questions about the motives of Gerald Hamilton, who is Labissiere’s legal guardian. Parrish also discussed the issue earlier this week in a CBSSports.com podcast, which is available here.

(Hamilton has not returned several phone calls from the Herald-Leader over the past few days).

Parrish spoke to the Herald-Leader on Thursday about Labissiere, Hamilton, the recruitment and the possible problems UK could have in getting the highly touted basketball star cleared to play next season. Here are some excerpts from that interview:

Five-star power forward Skal Labissiere announced his commitment to Kentucky on Thursday night, two years after he became the first player from the class of 2015 to receive a scholarship offer from John Calipari.

Labissiere — a 6-foot-11 native of Haiti — is considered the No. 3 overall prospect in the class of 2015 by Scout.com. He attends high school in Memphis and chose the Wildcats over fellow finalists Memphis, Baylor, Georgetown, North Carolina and Tennessee.

Five-star basketball prospects Isaiah Briscoe and Skal Labissiere will both announce their college decisions Thursday on ESPNU, a source told the Herald-Leader on Monday.

The announcements will be part of ESPNU’s one-hour “Basketball Signing Day Special,” which will air live at 6 p.m. The early signing period begins Wednesday and runs through Nov. 19. Briscoe and Labissiere are the only two players currently scheduled to announce their decisions on the show.

Kentucky, St. John’s and UConn are the three finalists for Briscoe, a 6-foot-3 prospect from New Jersey who is considered the No. 1 point guard in the class of 2015. He visited St. John’s for that program’s final exhibition game Saturday, though many recruiting observers consider UK the favorite.
