Five-star point guard Tyrese Maxey became the first recruit in the class of 2019 to officially sign with Kentucky on Wednesday, the first day of the national early signing period.

Maxey — a 6-foot-3 prospect from Texas — signed with the Cats during a special ceremony at his high school. He was also UK’s first commitment for the 2019 class, giving his pledge in early May. Maxey is the No. 10 overall player in the class of 2019, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

UK commitment Tyrese Maxey returned to the court Saturday night after missing time with a sprained ankle and helped the USA Basketball U18 team defeat Canada, 113-74, to win a gold medal in the FIBA Americas U18 tournament.

Maxey

247Sports national recruiting analyst Evan Daniels logged a Crystal Ball prediction in favor of Kentucky for five-star point guard Tyrese Maxey on Saturday night.

Maxey — a 6-foot-3 prospect from Garland, Texas — has hosted John Calipari and UK assistant coach Tony Barbee twice for in-home visits over the past couple of weeks, and the national perception of his recruitment has swung heavily in the Wildcats’ favor over the past few days. UK now has nearly 90 percent of the picks on Maxey’s Crystal Ball page.

Maxey

We’ve been hearing for the past few months that Kentucky is the most likely college destination for five-star point guard Tyrese Maxey.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball now reflects that prediction, following a huge swing of picks away from Southern Methodist and toward UK over the past few days. As of Thursday night, Kentucky is a major favorite on Maxey’s Crystal Ball page.

John Calipari will have an in-home visit with Maxey this weekend, the UK coach’s second trip to Texas in the past week to meet with the 17-year-old star. Maxey is the No. 2 point guard in the 2019 composite rankings behind only Ashton Hagans, who has already committed to UK and is expected to reclassify to 2018 this summer so he can play for the Wildcats next season.

John Calipari was in Texas on Thursday afternoon to see class of 2019 recruit Tyrese Maxey, the first point guard in his class to receive a scholarship offer from Kentucky.

Maxey — a 6-foot-3 prospect from Garland, Texas — is the No. 13 overall player in the 2019 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He’s also the No. 2 point guard on that list behind fellow UK target Ashton Hagans, who is considering a move to the class of 2018.

Calipari has visited with Maxey four times in the past six months, and Maxey has also been on UK’s campus for a recruiting trip during that time. His father is on staff at Southern Methodist — the leader on his Crystal Ball page — but the Herald-Leader has been told over the last few months that UK is in a great spot in his recruitment.

Already in Texas for Saturday night’s game against Texas A&M, UK Coach John Calipari did a little recruiting — watching five-star prospect Tyrese Maxey, the Cats’ top point guard target for the class of 2019.

Calipari has now visited Maxey — a 6-foot-3 player from Garland, Texas — at least three times since October, and Maxey was in Lexington last fall for an unofficial visit to Big Blue Madness.

He’s also considering Michigan State and several others, including Southern Methodist, where his father was recently hired in a support staff role. The Herald-Leader has been told that UK should be considered the frontrunner for Maxey at his point in his recruitment.
