UK basketball signee Tyrese Maxey was in Lexington for the Cats’ 71-63 victory over Kansas on Saturday, and he got an introduction to the Rupp Arena fans early in the evening.

During the first TV timeout of the first half, former UK guard and gameday emcee Ravi Moss introduced Maxey to the Rupp crowd, which greeted him with loud cheers and applause as he smiled widely and a graphic honoring the five-star point guard’s selection to the McDonald’s All-American Game was displayed on the arena’s video screens.

Maxey — a 6-foot-2 recruit from Texas — was selected Thursday for the McDonald’s Game, which will be played March 27 in Atlanta. He committed to the Cats in May and officially signed with Kentucky in November.

247Sports national recruiting analyst Evan Daniels logged a Crystal Ball prediction in favor of Kentucky for five-star point guard Tyrese Maxey on Saturday night.

Maxey — a 6-foot-3 prospect from Garland, Texas — has hosted John Calipari and UK assistant coach Tony Barbee twice for in-home visits over the past couple of weeks, and the national perception of his recruitment has swung heavily in the Wildcats’ favor over the past few days. Maxey

We’ve been hearing for the past few months that Kentucky is the most likely college destination for five-star point guard Tyrese Maxey.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball now reflects that prediction, following a huge swing of picks away from Southern Methodist and toward UK over the past few days. As of Thursday night, Kentucky is a major favorite on Maxey’s Crystal Ball page.

John Calipari will have an in-home visit with Maxey this weekend, the UK coach’s second trip to Texas in the past week to meet with the 17-year-old star. Maxey is the No. 2 point guard in the 2019 composite rankings behind only Ashton Hagans, who has already committed to UK and is expected to reclassify to 2018 this summer so he can play for the Wildcats next season.

John Calipari was in Texas on Thursday afternoon to see class of 2019 recruit Tyrese Maxey, the first point guard in his class to receive a scholarship offer from Kentucky.

Maxey — a 6-foot-3 prospect from Garland, Texas — is the No. 13 overall player in the 2019 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He’s also the No. 2 point guard on that list behind fellow UK target Ashton Hagans, who is considering a move to the class of 2018.

Calipari has visited with Maxey four times in the past six months, and Maxey has also been on UK’s campus for a recruiting trip during that time. His father is on staff at Southern Methodist — the leader on his Crystal Ball page — but the Herald-Leader has been told over the last few months that UK is in a great spot in his recruitment.
