Five-star center Udoka Azubuike is expected to announce his college decision Sunday, and Kansas has emerged as the late favorite in his recruitment.

Azubuike — a 6-foot-10 prospect from Nigeria, now in his senior season in Florida — has narrowed his choices to Florida State, Kansas and North Carolina. FSU had been considered a heavy favorite, but Kansas was the popular choice on Azubuike’s 247Sports Crystal Ball page Saturday night.

Kentucky was recruiting Azubuike earlier in his high school career but has not had contact with him in several months. He’s one of the top remaining uncommitted prospects in the class of 2016.

UK Coach John Calipari is scheduled to travel to Jacksonville, Fla., to check out five-star center Udoka Azubuike on Wednesday before his in-home visit with Antonio Blakeney later in the day.

UK assistant coach John Robic traveled to Florida to see him during the first week of the fall recruiting period, which began Sept. 9.

Calipari will meet with Blakeney — one of the top players in the class of 2015 — on Wednesday night. The 6-4 guard from Orlando has already hosted three schools in the past two days. He decommitted from Louisville last week.

That leaves Orlando shooting guard Antonio Blakeney as the only UK recruiting target in the Super Showcase. UK assistant coach John Robic watched him p;ay Thursday morning.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Udoka Azubuike is still two years away from playing college basketball, but he’s already one of the hottest recruits in the country.

The native of Nigeria — now playing for a high school in Florida — picked up scholarship offers from Kentucky, Duke and Kansas in a matter of 24 hours earlier this week.

It was a testament to how far his game has come.

“Kentucky offering me a scholarship — I feel great,” Azubuike said. “It feels like all of the hard work I’ve been putting in has paid off. It’s a great experience. Not everybody has the opportunities to get an offer from Kansas, from Kentucky, from Duke. Those are big programs. Everybody knows about them.

“I don’t feel like I’ve made it though. I’m still going to work hard.”

Florida center Udoka Azubuike has received a scholarship offer from Kentucky, his high school coach told the Herald-Leader.

Potter’s House (Fla.) coach Steve McLaughlin said that UK Coach John Calipari called Azubuike with the scholarship offer Sunday night, the first day that college coaches were permitted to directly contact players from the class of 2016.

Azubuike, a 6-foot-10, 265-pound prospect with a 7-5 wingspan, is ranked as high as No. 6 overall in the class by ESPN. McLaughlin said Calipari watched Azubuike play in person during the first Nike EYBL stop in Sacramento, Calif., earlier this spring.
