Unranked running back Tyler Markray announced his commitment to Kentucky on Thursday night, and the Herald-Leader has confirmed that he will be a preferred walk-on player in the Wildcats’ recruiting class of 2018.

Markray — a 5-foot-11, 215-pound prospect from West Bloomfield, Mich. — joins Chris Rodriguez as the second running back in the Cats’ 2018 class.

Kentucky now has three commitments from the state of Michigan for next year. Four-star prospects Marquan McCall and DeAndre Square were already committed to the Wildcats.

Highly touted offensive lineman Justin Rogers will be one of many UK football recruiting targets at Kroger Field on Saturday for the Wildcats’ night game against Florida.

Rogers — a 6-foot-2, 290-pound prospect from Oak Park (Mich.) — was mentioned as a possible visitor for the UK-Eastern Kentucky game earlier this month but could not make that trip. He’s friends and teammates with four-star offensive lineman Marquan McCall, the Cats’ top-rated commitment for 2018.

Williams

Four-star quarterback Jarren Williams — UK’s highest-profile commitment for the class of 2018 — confirmed to the Herald-Leader on Monday night that he will make the trip to Lexington on Saturday for the Wildcats’ night game against Florida.

Williams — a 6-foot-3 prospect from Lawrenceville, Ga. — is still being actively recruited by several Southeastern Conference schools despite his commitment to Kentucky.

247Sports ranks Williams as the No. 7 dual-threat QB nationally for the 2018 class.

247Sports national recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong logged an interesting Crystal Ball projection Saturday: a prediction that four-star wide receiver Rondale Moore will flip his commitment from Texas to Purdue.

Moore — a 5-foot-8 prospect from Trinity High School in Louisville — is ranked by 247Sports as one of the Top 100 overall players nationally in the 2018 recruiting class, and that website has him as the No. 17 wide receiver in the country and the No. 1 player in the state of Kentucky.

Four-star linebacker and UK commitment DeAndre Square was in Columbus on Saturday night, visiting Ohio State for the Buckeyes’ high-profile home game against Oklahoma.

Square — ranked by Scout.com as the No. 252 overall prospect nationally in the 2018 class — is a Detroit native and had his own game Friday night, making a trip to Lexington for UK’s noon kickoff Saturday a difficult trip. Square has repeatedly said that he’s solid with his commitment to the Cats.

The UK pledge also seemed to enjoy the antics of Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield following the Sooners’ victory on Ohio State’s home field.

Western Hills football star Wandale Robinson is off to a great start to his junior season, with more than 700 yards of offense and 12 total touchdowns in his first three games with the Wolverines.

Robinson — a 5-foot-8 offensive playmaker — attended UK’s home opener against Eastern Kentucky on Saturday and already has a scholarship offer from the Wildcats, who are considered to be possible favorites at this point in his recruitment.

Louisville, Purdue, Syracuse and Virginia have also offered Robinson.

Keontra Smith, the Kentucky Wildcats’ only football commitment so far for the class of 2019, is listed by ESPN as the No. 169 overall recruit nationally in the website’s first Top 300 player rankings for the class of 2019.

Smith — a 5-foot-11, 195-pound defensive back from Hollywood, Fla. — committed to UK in June and has since received a scholarship offer from home-state Florida. More major offers are expected, and UK will likely have to fight off some powerhouse programs to hold on to his commitment.

Scout.com Ohio recruiting insider Bill Greene logged a Crystal Ball pick in favor of Ohio State for top UK football target L’Christian “Blue” Smith this weekend.

Greene also posted a video interview with Smith on Sunday morning where the highly touted wide receiver says he has already decided on where he will play college football.

Smith — a 6-foot-6, 210-pound prospect from the Dayton area — is expected to pick between UK and Ohio State, and he’s planning to make that announcement during the weekend of Aug. 25-27.

Bryan Hudson

Rivals.com released its first state rankings for the football recruiting class of 2019 on Friday, and it looks to be a banner year for talent in Kentucky.

Trinity defensive end Stephen Herron is, unsurprisingly, No. 1 on the list. Herron is the No. 40 prospect in the class nationally and has already committed to Michigan.

Following Herron are Louisville Christian receiver Milton Wright, Scott County offensive lineman Bryan Hudson and Bowling Green defensive tackle Jacob Lacey, all with four-star rankings. Lacey is committed to Notre Dame, while Wright and Hudson remain uncommitted with scholarship offers from Kentucky.
